As a Sorority, alpha Kappa Delta Phi strives to serve our community to the best of our abilities. We have received the Excellence in Service Award four years in a row from the Asian Student Council. Aside from all of our philanthropy work for Breast Cancer Awareness, we have also participated in a number of other community service activities such as:

  • Donating and handing out stuffed animals to children at St. Peter’s Hospital
  • Tsunami Relief tabling and meal swipe with Tzu Chi International Relief
  • Collaborative Coffee House with First Light (2005) and LiNK (2006) to raise money for Tsunami Relief
  • TOPOFF 3 Bioterrorism Exercise at St. Peter’s Hospital
  • Annual Rutgers University Dance Marathon serving the Institute for Children with Cancer and Blood Disorders
  • Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen
  • Minority Bone Marrow drives
  • Red Cross Blood Drives
  • Raritan River clean-up

Each year we strive to increase the number of community service events that we are involved in. It is the belief of all of the sisters at Rutgers University’s alpha Kappa Delta Phi that we reach out a little every day and continue to take the necessary steps in improving the community.

(If you are interested in co-hosting or having us participate or attend your service event, please contact our Vice President of Community Service.)

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade raises funds and awareness for breast cancer research and to advance access to care, with a focus on the medically underserved.  From its launch in 1992, Avon’s Global Breast Cancer Crusade has expanded to more than 55 countries and by the end of 2009 had raised and awarded more than $640 million. Grants are made in five areas: breast cancer education and awareness, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services and scientific research.  The largest source of funds for the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.

The Avon Walks are non-competitive weekend fundraising walks for all fitness levels.  Since the launch of the series in 2003, more than $320 million has been raised through the dedication of over 120,000 participating women and men. The Walks take place in 9 cities, covering 39 miles in two days, and raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer.

Progress has been made but there is still a new diagnosis of breast cancer in the U.S. every 3 minutes. The Avon Foundation for Women supports research to accelerate knowledge about the causes, diagnosis, treatments, and ways to prevent breast cancer.  It works to facilitate research collaborations and to identify and fund new research directions. The Foundation also supports efforts to ensure the best quality of care for all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay

Welcome Message:

Welcome to the website of Rutgers University's alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Inc.! Here you will find everything you need to know about our chapter - we encourage you to take your time and look around, see what interests you, and contact us if you have any questions or are interested in more information. We would be happy to hear from you! Keep checking back to our "Events" page to view upcoming events, parties, and updates from sisters. You will be amazed at the amount of work we do for our university and community, and the dedication and passion we have to represent our four letters: alpha Kappa Delta Phi.

As we start the new school year, we hope that you will take a look at our "Rush" Section to learn more about our recruitment period, which is coming up in less than a week! Everything is FREE, there are NO OBLIGATIONS and rides will be provided everywhere! It is a great time to get to know other students on campus, as well as the sisters of our wonderful sorority. We will also be hosting mixers throughout rush week with other on-campus organizations, so be on the look out for those, as well! You can find the rush schedule and our flyers under the "Events" or "Rush" sections. If we don't see you out at rush, we wish everybody a great fall semester!

With Love and Friendship,
The Sisters of alpha Kappa Delta Phi Sorority, Inc.
